It seems education, science and technology, and government wiring are at the top of the agenda for TSP’s planned reforms. Building new things re maths circles seems possible for education, but do you think it’s actually possible to do the same for science and technology re trying to solve the problems of AI regulation, gene editing, possible virus engineering through a separate entity to govt?

Or is this a different campaign to TSP; one that is more focused on rewriting international institutions?

Dominic Cummings's avatar

Maths Circles can just be built.

One some things valuable thinking can be done outside but only implemented by those with power.

Each subject is different.

Obviously you can't fix the nuclear shitshow or even meaningfully discuss it outside the deep state

It’s interesting you talk about the young modern left, as I suspect I have a better understanding of how it works and the psychologies of it at play than anybody else here, given that I spent my formative years largely immersed in it. I have to be honest, little of what I have heard from you thus far has lead me to be convinced that you actually understand the mechanics of it all and which bits really are nonsense vs just being filtered by their terrible communication skills. Happy to discuss this further as this seems to be your most obvious blind spot in your analysis

TheKnowing's avatar

I'd like to discuss further. Do you have any contact details.

Combaticus Wombaticus III's avatar

Sure - can email at fckitybye@gmail.com (guess what I was watching the night I made my burner) or otherwise happy to DM on Twitter, Reddit, Discord etc - whatever you prefer

How is taking over Ukraine 'existential'? Quite a weak argument. Russia existed before taking over Ukraine and would have continued to exist had it not invaded.

PS you're constantly talking about how everyone is way to the left, but what if you're just really to the right?

What if you're a right wing NPC? That Milei speech literally said a market failure is 'impossible' because by definition all market exchanges are voluntary, as if information asymmetry, externalities, tragedy of the commons, coordination problems, etc. don't exist or don't matter. It's the thinking of a 5-year-old, whether epistemically or philosophically.

You have to be a total NPC to uncritically swallow the idea that there is no such thing as a market failure.

Dwarkeshfan420's avatar

As a right-wing NPC, you also have 'dark information', such as the fact that the US economy is actually doing very well right now under Biden, something you have ignored.

Other 'dark information' seen amongst right-wing NPCs includes no discussion of any misbehaviour by the IDF, and zero discussion or care about the civilian death toll in Gaza, which includes thousands of dead children.

platonist's avatar

This is daft . Hamas was voted in by the people of Gaza and they need to admit they started a war they can't win . They , the people , need to turn on Hamas and get rid of them by hook or by crook . Then sue for peace . The US economy may look as if it's doing ok but you need to look out for the pile of money Biden has thrown at it and the massive debt burden/interest charge this has led to . Though I would not bet against the US market .

Ali's avatar

Watch interest rates (the low rate crowd may get a big shock)

Ali's avatar

Stagflation in US due to inflation reduction act simultaneously destroying euro zone. Perhaps hamas know they can’t win?

I think his point was - open markets adopt and adapt better than closed ideological systems . Hence , despite two wars and several skirmishes currently imposing problems , it seems the open market system is resilient - though you could argue that Russia and China are not doing too badly either . I don't think DC is either Left or Right but aiming for the best governance possible , and which our current institutions are failing very badly to deliver .

Ukraine is existential for *Putin*, if he loses there he loses everything.

303Bookworm's avatar

The political alignment of the Ukraine is absolutely an existential matter for Russia. Contrary to popular belief, an army of a size capable of taking on Russia can only approach via a very limited number of routes, limited by natural obstacles (mountains, swamps, rivers, etc) and availability of road infrastructure. Control of such territories is a valid strategic goal. A cursory examination of Operation Barbarossa will show you that a significant number of very big battles took place in the Ukraine, because this is where critical defensible terrain is located. Giving this up to NATO control would be malfeasance.

I didnt say the Milei speech was right, I said it was the talk of Davos

NPCs by definition yabber but don't change anything significant

Mr. Cummings, I couldn't find the button to vote for one advertiser on your substack. I vote for it. I ignore ads anyway so for the extra $ to write more, I say go for it. gl

Also couldn't find the button, would also vote for it.

I also promise not to ignore the ad, dear purchaser.

I notice your maths circles are oriented towards Primary Schools. What are your plans for Secondary Schools? I know some people who may be interested in Secondary Maths Circles.

I personally, however am more interested in your study of Regime Collapse. I have a document on my computer (only a word one mind) which tracks the regime change of every nation in the world going back 200 years (UK last changed in 1918). What exactly are you planning on doing with your information and in what format?

You seem very confident that the Conservatives will have another "clown leader". Of the top contenders Mordaunt, Braverman, Cleverly and Tugendhat are obvious clowns. You said before you weren't particularly impressed with Badenoch but I think she could be a surprise because of both her background in Science and her ability to both know her audience and quit whilst she's ahead. Have you re-evaluated on her since you were last asked? In addition, I think Nick Timothy, May's old adviser whose standing in this election has a good chance of both a) winning his seat and b) winning the leadership election. I've heard some of his comments and I don't think you and he are as far apart as you'd think (sorry if this is off-base, I've never actually met him or you). What are your thoughts on a Timothy leader?

Finally, you speak of building something in 2025 regarding a political party. However, my personal research indicates TSP's fail when they don't have at least one person IN parliament. I'm sure you have an eye on who you can persuade to defect but I've been thinking about it another way. I have analysed every constituency in the UK using a variety of demographic factors to find their likelihood of an independent candidate getting in. I have EVERY constituency in the UK ranked on likelihood of independent victory. I also have people (myself included) who are primed to stand in 3 of the top 15. Is this a good idea? How would one manage to involve you to discuss pointers and messaging (unfortunately £24k for your services is above my budget). I apologise if this is a rude line of questioning.

PS: Your post talks about a poll for voting for adverts but I see no poll. Can you add one?

platonist's avatar

re "building something in 2025" - seems you are already - great . Keep it small and cell-like ,

-stop infiltrators .

TheKnowing's avatar

Unless you are an infiltrator you're welcome to join

Dominic Cummings's avatar

There are already good projects for secondaries, e.g MESME and Simon Singh.

The Tories shd be closed after the election, they are beyond saving even by VL

Yes am talking to possible defectors

Yes good idea to consider networks now

TSP update coming soon

The Lorryist's avatar

So by listening to MoZ, All-In etc. etc. I'm better briefed than MPs...? People tell me I'm wasted driving a truck, but maybe they don't know the half of it...

Gruffydd's avatar

Now you just gotta build something with that knowledge.

Your writing is good.

The Lorryist's avatar

I've got some ideas. Thanks for the comment re the writing, I appreciate that.

Good luck with the math circle project. I’ve got a three and a six-year-old, and it’s fascinating/challenging thinking about how best to approach maths in the early years. Your list of recommended books in an earlier blog was useful.

I’m a former English teacher now working in HE. I know you’re an advocate of spaced learning, and I’ve been pushing this quite hard with colleagues.

At the risk of being shot down, I’m going to take up your challenge of naming a decent British podcast. ‘These Times’ from UnHerd, particularly the contributions of Helen Thompson, are pretty informative on geopolitics. Doesn’t feel like SW1 bunkertalk. 👍

Dominic Cummings's avatar

Yes I listened to an episode for first time this week & agree it was much better than than normal SW1 crap

R.e. British podcasts

https://youtube.com/@TheDuran UKR analysis has a good track record. Surprisingly weak on UK domestic politics though.

https://youtube.com/@LotuseatersDotCom though best political content is behind the paywall. Most stuff on YouTube is a bit more normal but probably to drive subscribers though.

"It’s very dangerous to be an ally of NATO these days."Best thing you ever wrote and I'm surprised no one is questioning you about that on here. Where is everyone??...Rishi in Cali by summer and the next glove puppet will be from HOL-haw haw.

Podcast-'Oh God What Now' can be good except for the occasional Gavin Esler-bork. To be fair there is more thinking in the comments board on Guido Fawkes than in most podcasts....

Have you read John Gray's The New Leviathans?...in a nutshell trying to get rid of the bureaucracy only grows it further...worth reading...and weeping.

Excellent stuff. I am still not convinced about the American empire, though. What is happening also seems consistent with the triumph of their form of imperialism. E.g., if it is inevitable that Europe is spent and likely to get closer to Russia/China, why not turn it into Latin America while gradually winding down there? Similarly with the nutty left and Trump. There must be great utility in maintaining irrationality (and manipulability) of the collective, while also dividing it, as a shield to preserve deep state power. Not unprecedented, surely, but also how religion has often functioned. Must also be good for recruitment, as it helps foster the required forms of cynicism. And taking it to extremes might well be necessary after a lull, since otherwise how are you supposed to produce a sufficient number of Kissingers?

A latest sky news's avatar

What are your thoughts on Braverman? I’ve noticed you haven’t mentioned her on your Substack? Also, you’ve mentioned dealing with incentives when it comes to NHS reform, what do you mean by this eg could you give a simple example? Do you have any good reading on NHS?

A latest sky news's avatar

Enjoy reading your Substack. Very informative and have given me a whole new view of politics, media and academics and placed in my mind a greater emphasis on management.

Ali's avatar

Dc, balanced and brilliant as ever.

Seems you have been making ripples by the “new commentary”. Bravo

Terry's avatar

DC's hoped for self-implosion of the Establishment in early 2025 is unlikely. This is because NPC's like Sunak have been told by those in the Establishment who control them that the people have had enough of the political class and its idiotology - hence Sunak's clever press conference yesterday daring the Lords to stand in the way of his Rwanda Bill, thereby positioning himself as champion of the people against his own Establishment. This is what the Establishment does when it is threatened; it junks idiotology in all its forms and pretends to do what the people want it to do. It's what Starmer's Establishment controllers Mandelson and Blair told him to do with Corbyn's idiotology.

Likewise, Mandelson and Blair will ensure that Starmer goes hard against any number of idiotological idiocies immediately they (Blair and Mandelson) take power in November 2022. This Establishment tactical about-turn will actually be led by the guaranteed new Tory leader, Jacob Rees-Mogg - no 'clown leader' he. It is a mistake to see the Establishment as divided between two parties or wings, given that it is and always has been a single Establishment entity.

So forget merely a new party in 2025. A new paradigm is needed instead. I'll be presenting and then implementing that in due course.

Ali's avatar

Perhaps a missing element of your analysis is the extreme polarity of the lobbies. The crisis around the world will ensure the uniparty lobbies are deeply divided. This will ensure rapidly amplified discontent! (Even mogg).

How will you be presenting/ implementing in due course?

Thanks

Terry's avatar

Hi Ali,

The fact that the uniparty lobbies are indeed divided is what has presented us with our present opportunity to replace the Establishment per se. But, as my original post made clear, the ACTUAL 'players' in the Establishment are all now acutely aware of the dangers posed to them, and will do everything they feel is needed to defend it. They are NOT to be underestimated in the way that DC seems to think they can be.

Replacing the Establishment is not going to be as easy as merely setting up a new political party. As I stated, a new paradigm needs to be presented and implemented and that is going to take a lot of work. As to how I will be presenting and implementing my new paradigm, you and everyone else will know when it happens.

What UK entrepreneurs or UK thinkers would make it onto a Dom Cumming’s podcast?!

Gruffydd's avatar

Hassabis would be a top pick. Paul Graham lives in the UK, he'd be amazing to have on too.

Edit: Matt Clifford is another one.
